Patient Instructions

Before Your Endodontic Treatment

This procedure will be performed using local anesthesia. There are usually no restrictions on driving or returning to work afterward, unless oral conscious sedation is used. A doctor is available for consultation at all times should a problem arise after your treatment.

1

Continue your regular medications

Keep taking your medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid conditions, or anything else as recommended by your physician. If you have a question about a specific medication, call our office before your appointment.

2

Eat a full meal beforehand

Please eat a full breakfast or lunch, whichever applies before your appointment time.

!

Antibiotic premedication, if it applies to you

If your physician or dentist has advised you to premedicate with antibiotics because of artificial joints (hip, knee, shoulder, etc.), a cardiac prosthesis, or a specific heart condition, make sure you’ve taken the appropriate antibiotic on the day of your appointment. If you’re unsure, call our office before you come in.

3

Consider taking an anti-inflammatory beforehand

If you’re able to take ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen sodium (Aleve), doing so beforehand can help reduce inflammation. We recommend two tablets of either medication about one hour before your endodontic therapy.
