Sedation Options
Feeling anxious about your visit is completely normal, and we offer a couple of sedation options to help you stay relaxed and comfortable throughout your procedure.
Nitrous Oxide
Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a great way to stay relaxed during your procedure and works well for the mildly anxious patient.
Some health conditions may make nitrous oxide unsuitable, so please let Dr. Hill know about any health conditions or medications ahead of time.
Oral Conscious Sedation
You’ll take a pill 1–2 hours before your appointment — typically Halcion or Valium — to help you relax during the procedure. You’ll stay comfortable, aware of your surroundings, and able to respond to Dr. Hill, though you may feel sleepy or tired. Unlike IV or general anesthesia, it won’t put you to sleep.
Effects can last several hours after treatment. You’ll need an adult with you to drive you home.
Not sure which option is right for you? We’re happy to talk it through.
